Some tips for the winter

Fiesch is a good starting point to explore the Aletsch ski area. A spacious cable car takes you from Fiesch to Kühboden (2212 m) and Eggishorn (2926 m); you arrive at one of the most beautiful ski areas of Switzerland. The link shows a nice map of the area: the Aletsch Ski Area.; an area with 104 km prepared pistes and 34 ski lifts. Walkers enjoy this as well: 72 km prepared winter walking paths wait for you on this family friendly Aletschplateau.

Another tip: favourite with walkers but also with skiers who want to do something different for a day. Drive to Ernen, opposite the chalet; in the village, take a sharp turn to your right into the direction of Binn. You can see the road from the chalet. After a few kilometers you pass through a tunnel, carry on and park your car there and walk to Imfeld (1 h). Take your sledge along, good fun, for sure the most beautiful valley of Switzerland.

Some tips for the summer

A couple of years ago we went with our children and grandchildren (then 3 and 5 yrs old) to Kühboden (2212 m) and walked to the Marjellensee, a beautiful walk. We took a stroller along, with the smallest child on the back of her dad. A tiring trip but good fun!

Our favourite: drive to Ernen, opposite the chalet; in the village, take a sharp turn to your right into the direction of Binn; you can see the road from the chalet. After a few kilometres you arrive at a tunnel, park your car just left of the entrance. On the right hand side of the tunnel you find the old road to Binn, a very nice walk. Alternatively you could drive to Binn,  park there and walk to Imfeld (1 hr), Freichi (another 1.5 hrs) and Albrünpas (another 2 hrs). That last walk is a tough one not particularly heavy but long; the hut is manned, you can also eat and sleep there.

Langlaufen: loipes, with different degrees in difficulty, and a length of ca 100 km, connect the picturesque villages from Niederwald to Oberwald. Almost every village has a railway station of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGBahn)

For Summer and Winter: Opposite the chalet, you see the village Ernen, a nice walk on a trail, takes about an hour.

Starting at the chalet, walk to Lax; during summer you could continue as far as Mörl, back by train.

Left of the chapel, there is a trail upwards, after about 1 km at a T-intersection, turn right. Follow sign posts 'Fiesch zer Flie' and later 'Feuerstelle' (Fireplace). A nice place for a BBQ, take wood with you.
